Gamescom’s Opening Night Live gave fans a surprise nobody saw coming: the revival of Bubsy. The reveal trailer for Bubsy 4D showcased a colorful, stylish world that looks like a fresh start for the mascot, whose 1996 outing Bubsy 3D is still infamous in gaming history.

This time around, Bubsy is in good hands. The game is being developed by Fabraz, the indie studio behind the critically acclaimed Demon Turf, and published by Atari. Fans immediately noticed the smooth animations, snappy platforming, and quirky sense of humor in the trailer—proof that the developers are leaning into Bubsy’s reputation with self-aware winks and playful nods.

Bubsy’s New Adventure

In Bubsy 4D, players will leap from planet to planet, battling the classic Woolies alongside a new robotic foe: the BaaBots. Bubsy even gets a new “hairball” form to spice up the gameplay.

Other features include:

  • Online leaderboards for speedrunners
  • A funky new soundtrack by Fat Bard
  • A mix of classic Bubsy charm with modern platforming design

The game is shaping up to be more than a nostalgia trip—it’s aiming to stand tall among today’s 3D platformers.

So, When Is It Coming Out?

Here’s the catch: despite the flashy reveal, Bubsy 4D doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet. Both the official trailer and its store listings simply say: “Coming Soon.”

This isn’t unusual—many studios hold back from locking in a date so they can polish the game to their standards. What’s clear, though, is that Bubsy 4D is already far along in development.

When it does launch, it will be a multi-platform release on:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • Nintendo Switch & Switch 2
  • PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG)

Atari and Fabraz clearly want Bubsy’s comeback to reach as many players as possible.

Why the Hype Feels Different This Time

Skepticism was inevitable—after all, Bubsy has a reputation. But the involvement of Fabraz has sparked real optimism. Demon Turf was celebrated for its tight controls and creative design, exactly the qualities Bubsy needs to shine in 3D.

Adding to the momentum, Atari also announced Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection, a compilation of the first four Bubsy games, launching in September 2025. This seems to be part of a larger plan: reintroduce Bubsy to modern audiences before the big 3D debut.
