Astronaut Sunita Williams Shares Heartwarming Reunion with Her Dogs After Space Mission
NASA astronaut Sunita Williams recently shared an emotional video of her reunion with her beloved dogs after returning home from a long-duration mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
After spending months in space, Williams returned to Earth two weeks ago, and her two Labrador Retrievers, Gunner and Gorby, were eager to welcome her back.
Williams posted the touching moment on social media, calling it the “best homecoming ever!” The video shows her opening the door to find her dogs eagerly waiting for her in the front yard. The dogs, both wagging their tails and jumping around, were visibly excited to see her after such a long separation. Williams reciprocated their excitement with smiles and affectionate strokes, greeting each dog with love.
As Williams embraced Gorby, she cheerfully called out, “Who’s here? Gunner, get over here. Here’s my good boy!” Gunner, however, had his own plan and ran up to her with a stick in his mouth. “What are you doing? Are you showing off, boys?” she asked, playfully teasing them as Gunner darted away again. She jokingly remarked, “Gunner, are you giving me the cold shoulder?” when he ignored her calls, and later added, “And you too? You copycat?” when Gorby followed suit and ran off.
The video quickly went viral, touching the hearts of viewers around the world. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk even responded to the post with a heart emoji.

Many users expressed their joy in the comments, with one writing, “What a lovely video! Wishing you long life and good health,” while another added, “Technically space is dogs’ happy place. An infinite land full of tiny balls of light.” Others chimed in, calling the moment “heartwarming” and admiring the adorable dogs.
Looking ahead, Williams has plans to visit India and meet with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) team. During NASA’s SpaceX Crew-9 Post-Flight News Conference, Williams shared how she was always awestruck by the view of India from space, particularly the majestic Himalayas. “I hope and I think for sure I’m going to be going back to my father’s home country and visiting with people,” she said. She also mentioned her excitement about the upcoming Axiom mission, which will send an Indian astronaut to space.
Williams’ mother, Ursuline Bonnie Pandya, is of Slovenian-American descent, while her father, Deepak Pandya, hails from Gujarat, India. The reunion video, along with her future plans, further highlights her connection to both space and her heritage, making this a truly special moment for the astronaut and her fans.
This heartwarming reunion not only showcases Williams’ deep love for her dogs but also reflects her continued commitment to inspiring people, both on Earth and beyond.
