MediaTek announces Helio G95 chipset for 4G gaming phones

MediaTek has unveiled its new Helio G95 chipset with a promise to offer improved gaming performance.

The latest addition to the MediaTek Helio G Series family features enhanced MediaTek HyperEngine game technology, multi-camera support, unrivalled connectivity and AI Super Resolution for video streams.

The new chip will power major smartphone brands that will hit global markets in September. MediaTek Helio G95 offers gaming enthusiasts faster performance and high-end features like advanced multi-camera photography – up to 4 cameras, with an inbuilt AI processing unit (APU). It provides dual wake-up word support and enables HDR10 standard display, which can be enhanced to approach HDR10+ quality in real-time.

The MediaTek Helio G95 is an octa-core processor comprising two ARM Cortex-A76 CPUs clocked at up to 2.05GHz accompanied by six Cortex-A55 power-efficient CPUs. The processor is backed by an ARM Mali-g76 MC4 GPU operating at up to 900MHz frequency. There’s an ultra-low powered, always-on DSP (Digital Signal Processor) to facilitate dual wake-up word detection for two separate voice assistants. The DSP also minimises power consumption of always-on apps such as Google Assistant.

The Helio G95 comes with an AI Super Resolution display feature with support for up to 90fps FHD+ screens. MediaTek claims that the Helio G95 reduces the network bandwidth while online streaming by 75 percent. It supports video resolutions ranging from 360p to 720p in real-time, for a superior video calling and streaming experience.

Additionally, the MediaTek Helio G95 features multi-camera support up to four cameras with a maximum resolution of 64-megapixels. The chipset offers quad-pixel technology for clear low light imaging, depth engine for a real-time bokeh effect, AI face detection engine, and an integrated APU for AI camera enhancement, among others.

MediaTek has announced that the first Helio G95-powered smartphones will start hitting global markets this month.
