Kapoor Family And Bollywood Celebrities Honor Raj Kapoor's Legacy At Centenary Celebration

In a grand celebration of Raj Kapoor’s legacy, Bollywood stars gathered in Mumbai to mark the centenary of the legendary actor and filmmaker.

The event, held a day before Kapoor’s 100th birth anniversary, brought together his children and grandchildren, including Randhir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and Ranbir Kapoor, alongside notable figures from the film industry such as Rekha and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The highlight of the evening was the premiere of five of Raj Kapoor’s iconic films—Awara, Shree 420, Sangam, Mera Naam Joker, and Bobby—which were screened as part of a special three-day festival showcasing restored versions of his classics. The event took place at a suburban multiplex and was a tribute to the Hindi cinema showman who redefined Indian film culture.

The evening kicked off with Ranbir Kapoor and his wife Alia Bhatt, who were the first to step onto the red carpet. The carpet itself was adorned with movie posters from Raj Kapoor’s impressive filmography, reminding everyone of his immense contribution to Indian cinema.

Raj Kapoor’s family members, including his daughter Rima Jain, daughter-in-law Babita, son Randhir Kapoor, and other family members like Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Kunal Kapoor, Aadar Jain, and the Jain cousins Alekha and Armaan Jain, gathered for a special photo session. Their presence added to the celebration of Raj Kapoor’s enduring influence.

A live music band at the entrance set the mood for the evening, playing timeless melodies such as Jeena Yaha Marna Yaha, Mera Joota Hai Japani, and Kisi Ki Muskurahaton Pe, adding a nostalgic touch to the event.

The event was organized by PVR INOX Limited and the Film Heritage Foundation, who together launched the RK Film Festival. This three-day retrospective began on Friday, with screenings of ten of Raj Kapoor’s most memorable films, including Aag, Barsaat, Awaara, Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Sangam, Mera Naam Joker, Bobby, and Ram Teri Ganga Maili. These films will be showcased at select PVR INOX theatres across 40 cities.

Bollywood veterans like Prem Chopra, Rahul Rawail, Rajkumar Hirani, Vishal Bhardwaj, Prakash Jha, Ashutosh Gowariker, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Padmini Kolhapure, Mahesh Bhatt, Soni Razdan, Anees Bazmee, Aanand L Rai, Sriram Raghavan, Nitesh Tiwari, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, and Vicky Kaushal were also part of the celebrations, adding their voices to the homage to Raj Kapoor.

The celebration was further graced by the presence of other celebrities such as Farhan Akhtar, Rohan Sippy, Tiger Shroff, Rasika Duggal, Boney Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia D’Souza, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, Agastya Nanda, Sikander Kher, Ramesh Taurani, Vijay Varma, Sharvari Wagh, Huma Qureshi, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Terence Lewis, all of whom came together to honor one of the most iconic figures in Indian cinema history.
