John Krasinski, best known for his role as Jim Halpert on The Office and for his starring role in A Quiet Place, has been crowned People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2024.
The announcement came as a surprise on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, with Krasinski succeeding last year’s winner, Patrick Dempsey.
Colbert jokingly praised Krasinski’s transformation, saying, “I’m so proud to see my goofy, lovable friend go from boy next door to big, dumb sex hunk.” Krasinski, who recently wrapped up his role as Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime and had a cameo as Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, had some fun with the moment, revealing the first person he told was actor Matt Damon. “I slipped and told him at his birthday party,” Krasinski laughed. “He asked why I was late, and I said, ‘People’s Sexiest!'”
In addition to the title, Krasinski teased an upcoming Jack Ryan film, which he will star in.
The actor, married to Emily Blunt since 2010, also shared a glimpse into his family life. The couple has two daughters, Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, who remain largely out of the public eye. Blunt has said their daughters are “oblivious” to their parents’ fame.
Krasinski takes the title from Dempsey, who was named last year by Jimmy Kimmel Live! Dempsey, famous for his role as “McDreamy” on Grey’s Anatomy, laughed off the honor, saying his family “laughed quite hard” when they heard the news.
People Magazine has awarded the Sexiest Man Alive title every year since 1985, with Mel Gibson receiving the inaugural honor.
