Hollywood actor Jamie Foxx's birthday celebrations took an unexpected turn when an altercation occurred at a Beverly Hills restaurant, leaving him needing stitches.
The Django Unchained and Ray star was celebrating his 57th birthday on Friday when the incident took place.
According to a representative, someone at another table "threw a glass that hit him in the mouth." The situation has now been handed over to law enforcement. Foxx required stitches and is currently recovering.
The Beverly Hills Police Department confirmed they responded to an assault report at Mr. Chow, a high-end Chinese restaurant, around 10:10 p.m. Officials said there had been a physical altercation between two parties, but the reports of an assault with a deadly weapon were later deemed unfounded. Police did not provide further details on the cause of the altercation.
Although the police did not specifically mention Foxx by name, his representative confirmed that the actor was at the restaurant celebrating his birthday.
The incident comes shortly after Foxx publicly shared details about a recent health scare during a Netflix special. The actor revealed he had suffered a "brain bleed that led to a stroke," recalling how a severe headache caused him to black out, leaving him unable to remember 20 days of his life. His daughter, Corinne Foxx, had previously confirmed he experienced a "medical complication," but the family kept further details private.
Foxx, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in Ray (2005), is also known for his roles in Baby Driver, Annie, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the same year for Collateral.
The altercation remains under investigation, and it is unclear whether any arrests have been made at this time.
