The much-awaited Harry Potter TV series is making major strides in its casting process,
Fans won’t have to wait much longer to learn who will take on the iconic roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
With an impressive 32,000 audition tapes to review, the showrunners are now narrowing down the field. According to Deadline, decisions about the young leads are expected "relatively soon." The series, which will run across multiple seasons over the next decade, is a reimagining of J.K. Rowling’s beloved Harry Potter books. It's important to note that this TV adaptation is separate from the film series, meaning every role—from Hagrid to Voldemort—will be recast.
Three months after opening auditions in April 2024 for children aged 9-11, the casting team is now focused on chemistry reads, which are helping to finalize the choices for the central trio. After sifting through thousands of audition tapes, the process has moved to in-person callbacks, signaling that the final decisions are nearly here.
Filming is set to begin in Summer 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. In preparation, the production team is already in place, including costume designer Holly Waddington (known for Poor Things), writers like Laura Neal from Killing Eve, and Framestore, the Academy Award-winning visual effects company rumored to be handling the VFX.
During a Max showcase in London last month, showrunner Francesca Gardiner revealed that the casting team has been reviewing the 32,000 audition tapes. While some actors might not land the role of Harry, Ron, or Hermione, they could still be cast in other prominent roles, such as Ron's brothers Fred and George. Beyond the trio, the search continues for other key characters, including Draco Malfoy, Seamus Finnigan, and Cho Chang.
As for when the Harry Potter series will debut, it’s slated to release on Max in 2026. So, the magic is coming soon, and fans can expect a fresh take on the world of Hogwarts!
