Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have relocated to rural England and put their Montecito estate up for sale, citing the election of Donald Trump as a major factor in their decision to leave the U.S
. A source close to the couple confirmed they have no plans to return.
DeGeneres has already settled in the Cotswolds, a peaceful area in southern England, and her Montecito mansion—purchased in 2019—has either been quietly listed or will be soon. A representative for the real estate agency handling the sale did not respond to requests for comment.
The move comes after DeGeneres faced criticism over toxic workplace allegations related to The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022, leading her to publicly reflect on being “kicked out of show business.” In her recent Netflix special, Four Your Approval, DeGeneres humorously details her life post-talk show, including new hobbies like gardening and raising chickens.
“I got kicked out of show business… The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind,” DeGeneres joked.
