Coldplay’s “All My Love” Video:AHeartfelt Tribute to Dick Van Dyke

Coldplay has unveiled a moving new video for their song “All My Love,” directed by Spike Jonze and Mary Wigmore, featuring the legendary Dick Van Dyke.

The release of the official video on December 13th marks a special occasion — Van Dyke’s 99th birthday — adding an extra layer of meaning to the visual. Interestingly, an extended director’s cut of the video debuted a week earlier, on December 6th, offering a deeper look into Van Dyke’s life and legacy.

The extended cut provides an intimate glimpse into Van Dyke’s Malibu home, capturing the beloved actor surrounded by friends and family. It also includes rare archival footage from his iconic roles in Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and more. Throughout, Van Dyke dances barefoot and reflects on life, saying, “I’m acutely aware that I could go any day now, but I don’t know why it doesn’t concern me. I’m not afraid of it. I have this feeling, totally against anything intellectual I have, that I’m going to be alright.”

In the video, Coldplay’s Chris Martin plays the piano and performs “All My Love” with Van Dyke, adding a heartwarming touch to the celebration of Van Dyke’s storied life. The extended cut ends with a delightful moment where Martin and Van Dyke share a laugh while Martin improvises a playful song about aging.

The official version of “All My Love” includes much of the same emotional footage but with some unique additions, such as Van Dyke lip-syncing to the lyrics, dancing in slow motion, and reminiscing over photos from his childhood and early career. It’s a beautiful tribute to an actor who continues to inspire despite being on the brink of his 100th birthday.

Released as the third single from Coldplay’s Moon Music, “All My Love” adds to the band’s impressive achievements this year, following the success of their Music of the Spheres tour. As they prepare for a North American tour next year, fans are excited to see Coldplay bring their magic to the stage once again.

In a bittersweet turn of events, Van Dyke faced a more dangerous situation recently. During the California wildfires, he was at his Malibu home and had to be rescued after a challenging escape attempt. Thankfully, both he and his beloved cat, Bobo, are safe.

As Van Dyke approaches his 100th birthday, his spirit remains as vibrant as ever, proving that age is truly just a number.
