Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule Roars to $92 Million Worldwide in Four Days

Mythri Movie Makers’ Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun, has stormed the global box office with an impressive $92.5 million worldwide in its opening four-day weekend, according to Comscore.

The film now holds the title of the third-highest grossing film globally, trailing behind Moana 2 and Wicked.

The sequel to the 2021 hit Pushpa: The Rise, Pushpa 2 continues the story of Pushpa Raj, the fierce red sandalwood smuggler portrayed by Arjun. Directed by Sukumar, the film sees Pushpa rising to even greater power in the criminal underworld, following his defeat of Superintendent of Police Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat. As Pushpa’s dominance increases, he faces new threats, including the vengeful Shekhawat and rival smuggler Mangalam Srinu.

Opening on December 5, Pushpa 2 shattered records with a stunning worldwide opening day gross of $34.6 million, surpassing the previous Indian opening day record of $26 million set by RRR. The film released in 38 global territories, with North America contributing a significant $9.3 million, including $4.8 million during the three-day weekend. This places it at No. 4 on the North American box office chart.

Pushpa 2 has also surpassed Kalki 2898 AD, which had set a 2024 opening day record of $21 million. As of now, Pushpa 2 ranks as the third-highest Indian film grosser of the year, behind Kalki 2898 AD ($141 million) and Stree 2 ($103 million). If it continues its stellar performance, Pushpa 2 is set to become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024 in the coming days.

The film also made an impact in Imax theaters, raking in $1.4 million from 16 markets globally. In India alone, it grossed $650,000 from 31 Imax screens, making it the biggest local-language Imax opening of 2024 and the fourth-highest Imax opening ever in the market.
