The 2025 Academy Awards were a night full of surprises, triumphs, and history-making moments.

The biggest winner of the evening was Anora, which took home five Oscars, including the prestigious Best Picture award. The night also saw standout performances by Adrien Brody, Mikey Madison, Kieran Culkin, and Zoe Saldaña.

Anora dominated the night, earning five awards in total. Mikey Madison was named Best Actress for her role, and Sean Baker took home a record-breaking four awards. Not only did his film Anora win Best Picture, but Sean also nabbed Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.

The acting categories were full of surprises too. Adrien Brody won Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist, while Kieran Culkin took home the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in A Real Pain. Zoe Saldaña made history as the Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Emilia Pérez, becoming the first American of Dominican descent to win an Academy Award.

Another historic win came from Flow, which won Best Animated Feature, marking Latvia’s first-ever Oscar victory. No Other Land claimed the Best Documentary Feature award, while I’m Still Here triumphed as the Best International Feature Film, earning Brazil its first Oscar win.

Conclave earned the Best Adapted Screenplay honor for Peter Straughan, while Wicked made headlines for its achievements in costume and production design. Paul Tazewell, for his work on Wicked, made history as the first Black man to win Best Costume Design.

In terms of multiple award winners, The Brutalist wasn’t far behind, picking up Best Cinematography and Best Original Score in addition to Adrien Brody’s acting win. Dune: Part Two triumphed in Best Sound and Best Visual Effects, while Emilia Pérez also earned Best Original Song for “El Mal.” The Substance won the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, aired live from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The show included some memorable moments, such as performances from Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo from Wicked, as well as a special tribute to James Bond music by Doja Cat, Lisa of Blackpink, and Raye. Queen Latifah, Whoopi Goldberg, and Oprah Winfrey honored the legendary Quincy Jones, while Morgan Freeman paid tribute to Gene Hackman, who passed away recently, during the In Memoriam segment. The evening also featured a heartfelt tribute to the victims and heroes of the recent Los Angeles wildfires.
