The wait is finally over — John Cena is suiting up again as Peacemaker in Season 2 of the hit DC series, and it looks like fans are in for another wild, action-packed ride.

With the official teaser now out, we’re getting our first real glimpse at what’s ahead for this larger-than-life antihero as he charges full-throttle into the freshly rebooted DC Universe.

And let’s be honest — if the teaser is anything to go by, Season 2 is going to be just as outrageous, hilarious, and unexpectedly emotional as the first. Plus, there’s a twist that no one saw coming.

A Fresh Start in a New DC Era

Peacemaker isn’t just back — he’s stepping into a brand-new chapter of the DC Universe under the direction of James Gunn, who’s not only helming this season but also reimagining the entire cinematic universe with his upcoming Superman film. In fact, Season 2 of Peacemaker is expected to directly tie into that universe, setting the stage for what's coming next in DC's evolving storyline.

Originally launched in 2022 on Max (previously HBO Max), Peacemaker spun out of Gunn’s The Suicide Squad (2021). It focused on Christopher Smith, better known as Peacemaker — a brutally patriotic mercenary who believes peace is worth any price, no matter how violent or morally questionable. In Season 1, he was pulled into a covert government mission called “Project Butterfly,” which involved tracking down alien parasites hidden in human hosts.

Now, Season 2 picks up where the first left off — but things are about to get even more intense.

A Peacemaker With a Past (and Maybe a Future?)

When we catch up with Peacemaker in the teaser, it’s clear he’s still dealing with the emotional fallout from Season 1. Haunted by his past and desperate for redemption, he’s trying to change — in his own messed-up, chaotic way.

But here's the kicker: He’s actually interviewing for a spot on the Justice League. Yes, that Justice League.

The teaser gives us a hilarious and awkward moment where Peacemaker tries to impress a panel of iconic DC heroes, including Green Lantern (played by Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn). These characters are expected to have major roles in Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie, so this scene could be more than just comic relief — it might be a hint at how Peacemaker will connect to the wider DC Universe.

 The Multiverse Is Coming?

If you thought Peacemaker facing off with the Justice League was wild, wait until you see the teaser’s biggest twist: another Peacemaker shows up.

That’s right — a second version of the character appears, throwing fans into a frenzy of speculation. Is it a clone? A time-traveling twin? A multiverse version? DC hasn’t given any answers yet, but the potential introduction of the Multiverse into Peacemaker opens up all kinds of possibilities.

It’s the kind of weird, mind-bending twist that feels totally on-brand for this series.

The Gang’s All Here (Plus a Few New Faces)

Of course, it wouldn’t be Peacemaker without the rest of the crew. Returning for Season 2 are:

  • Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo

  • Freddie Stroma as the unhinged yet lovable Vigilante

  • Jennifer Holland as the tough-as-nails Emilia Harcourt

  • Steve Agee as the sarcastic tech guy John Economos

  • And yes, Eagly the eagle is back too!

There’s also a new addition to the cast: Frank Grillo joins the team as Rick Flag Sr., the father of the late Rick Flag Jr. (played by Joel Kinnaman in The Suicide Squad). Given the intense history between Peacemaker and Rick Flag Jr., this casting choice could add some serious emotional weight to the story.

Action, Humor, and Heart — Just Like Before

One of the reasons Peacemaker has resonated so well with audiences is its unique blend of absurd humor, brutal action, and surprisingly heartfelt moments. James Gunn, who writes all eight episodes and directs three of them, is keeping that same tone for Season 2.

Expect explosive fight scenes, awkward dance sequences, inappropriate jokes — and probably a few scenes that’ll catch you off guard emotionally.

Gunn has a knack for taking broken characters and making you care about them, no matter how ridiculous they seem on the surface. And in Season 2, it looks like he’s doubling down on that approach.
