Method 1: The Rarity Submission Strategy (Best Method)
The primary way to earn Rare Coal is through the Smithing Event Forge, located at the center of the event area.
1. Find the Forge
Head to the lobby’s central hub where the Blacksmith NPC stands. There you’ll see three submission windows:
- Submit Fruit
- Submit Egg
- Submit Gear
2. Submit One of Each
To receive Coal, you must submit one item into each of the three windows at the same time:
- 1 Fruit (or Plant)
- 1 Pet Egg
- 1 Gear item (like a Reclaimer, Hoe, or Watering Can)
3. Increase Your Chance of Rare Coal
The reward you get depends on the rarity of the items you submit:
- Rare Coal — Submit items of Rare or Legendary rarity.
Example:
Submitting a Rare or Legendary Fruit, a Rare Egg, and a Legendary Gear gives you the highest chance of earning Rare Coal, and sometimes even Legendary Coal.
Pro Tip:
Save your Divine or Transcendent items unless you want Divine Coal. For Rare Coal, stick to submitting surplus Rare and Legendary items for the best return.

If you plan to grind the event long-term, the Smithing Dog is one of the smartest investments you can make.

Once placed on your farm, the Smithing Dog automatically digs up a piece of Coal roughly every 12 minutes. While it most often finds Common Coal, it still has a steady chance of discovering Rare, Legendary, and even Divine Coal.
