The Fairy update has shaken up Roblox’s Grow a Garden with a treasure trove of new features—everything from the dazzling Glimmering mutation to the long-awaited ascension system. But what really has the community buzzing is the brand-new NPC friendship system, where players can bond with characters by feeding them.
The star of this new system is Sam, the Seed Stall keeper. Build your friendship with him, and you’ll gain access to a secret seed shop full of rare crops.
Step One: Become a Chef
Unlike past events where you could hand NPCs raw plants, Sam isn’t that easy—he wants cooked meals. To start cooking, you’ll need to unlock the Cooking Kit:
- Open your Inventory and select the Garden Guide.
- Go to the Achievements tab.
- Complete the “Core Plants” Common Achievements, such as Shovel 100 Plants or Gift 1 Carrot.
Once completed, you’ll receive the Cooking Kit as a reward. Place it in your garden, and you’re officially ready to cook.
Food Rarity Matters
Feeding Sam isn’t about stuffing him with anything you make—it’s about quality over quantity. Since you can only feed him once every 24 hours, using the highest-rarity meals gives you the best results.
Here’s how many friendship points each rarity grants:
- Common: 1 point
- Uncommon: 2 points
- Rare: 3 points
- Legendary: 4 points
- Mythical: 5 points
- Divine: 6 points
- Prismatic: 7 points
- Transcendent: 8 points
The community’s favorite strategy? Hunt down recipes for Prismatic or Transcendent dishes, then farm the needed ingredients. It’s the fastest way to rack up points.
Unlocking Sam’s Seed Shop
So why bother feeding Sam daily? The reward is worth it—exclusive seeds that can’t be found anywhere else.
- Friendship Level 1: Requires 15 points. With high-rarity meals, you can unlock this shop tab in as little as two days.
- Exclusive Seeds: Once unlocked, you can purchase rare seeds like Cocomango, Brussels Sprout, and Potato using Garden Coins, a new currency tied to the ascension system.
To feed Sam, hold the cooked food in your hand, walk up to him, and press E (on PC). A meter above his head tracks your friendship progress.
Why It Matters
The friendship system adds a new daily ritual to Grow a Garden, rewarding consistency and strategy. By investing in cooking and climbing the friendship ladder, players gain access to crops that set their gardens apart.
If you’re serious about progression, feeding Sam should become as routine as harvesting—because his exclusive seeds are too good to miss.
