Ghost of Yōtei Most Wanted Brings Back Jin Sakai as October Expansion Adds a New Story and Roguelike Survival Mode

Ghost of Yōtei’s October 1 Update Adds Jin Sakai, Most Wanted, Echoes of Sekigahara and New Gameplay Features

The announcement was made during the September State of Play presentations, where Sucker Punch also provided a deeper look at Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara, the game's upcoming narrative expansion.

Both pieces of content are scheduled to launch on October 1, 2026 as part of Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition.

Most Wanted is particularly interesting because it takes the game's existing combat and turns it into a single-player survival experience inspired by roguelike games.

Players choose a character, accept a bounty, fight through waves of enemies and build a powerful setup using perks and upgrades.

At the same time, Echoes of Sekigahara expands Atsu's story across two different periods of her life.

Together, the two additions could significantly extend Ghost of Yōtei beyond its original campaign.

Jin Sakai Returns as a Playable Character

The biggest surprise for longtime Ghost fans is the return of Jin Sakai.

Jin was the central protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima, but Ghost of Yōtei introduced a new hero in Atsu.

Now Sucker Punch is bringing Jin back as one of four playable characters in Most Wanted.

The studio says Jin has been adapted from his Ghost of Tsushima appearance while receiving visual and animation upgrades for Ghost of Yōtei.

He also retains all four of his original sword stances.

That is important because the stances give Jin a combat style that feels different from the other Most Wanted characters.

Jin begins with his katana, along with a Sticky Bomb and hankyu.

His Ultimate ability is Dance of Wrath, while his Kill Streak is Ghost Stance.

This means players are not simply receiving a cosmetic version of Jin.

He has his own combat identity within the new mode.

What Is Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted?

Most Wanted is a brand-new single-player combat survival mode.

Sucker Punch describes it as the studio's own take on the roguelike format.

The basic idea is simple.

Players choose a bounty and then fight through increasingly difficult waves of enemies and minibosses.

After completing each wave, players receive opportunities to improve their build.

These upgrades can include weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries and survivability improvements.

The objective is to create a powerful combination of perks before facing the final target.

This makes every run potentially different.

Instead of following the same linear combat structure from the main campaign, players have to make decisions during the run about which upgrades will produce the strongest build.

Four Characters Can Be Played

Most Wanted features four playable characters.

Each character uses a different combination of weapons and abilities.

Atsu

Atsu is the default starting character.

She uses dual katana and Ghost Tools including Metsubushi and Blind Bomb.

Her Ultimate is Call of the Pack, which summons two wolves to attack nearby enemies.

Her Kill Streak, Onryō's Howl, can terrify nearby enemies and force one to flee.

Oyuki

Oyuki uses the kusarigama, kunai and tanegashima rifle.

Her Ultimate, Shadow Killer, allows her to use smoke to assassinate two nearby enemies.

Her Kill Streak summons a Nine Tails ally to assist with assassinations.

Nagato

Nagato provides a more ranged-focused combat style.

He uses a yari, tanzutsu pistol, yumi long bow and hankyu short bow.

His Ultimate, Gambler's Mark, targets two enemies and guarantees headshots.

His Kill Streak restores Concentration and provides an explosive arrow.

Jin Sakai

Jin is the fourth playable character.

He uses the katana and all four Ghost of Tsushima stances.

His additional weapons include the Sticky Bomb and hankyu.

His Dance of Wrath Ultimate can target multiple enemies, while Ghost Stance gives him a powerful crowd-control option.

The four characters should give players very different ways to approach Most Wanted.

Bounties Create the Main Challenge

Every Most Wanted run starts by selecting a bounty from a bounty board.

Each bounty is connected to a different member of the Yōtei Six.

Players then fight through waves of enemies and minibosses while building their character.

The difficulty increases as players progress.

Once enough waves have been cleared, the run culminates in a fight against the selected bounty target.

Bounties can also be replayed at higher difficulty levels.

The ultimate challenge is a bounty against Lord Saito.

This structure gives Most Wanted a clear reason to be replayed.

Players can experiment with different characters and builds rather than simply completing the mode once and moving on.

Perks Are the Key to Building Your Character

The most important part of Most Wanted may be its perk system.

During a run, players regularly choose between different upgrades.

Echoes of Sekigahara Expands Atsu's Story

Most Wanted is not the only major addition arriving in October.

Ghost of Yōtei is also receiving Echoes of Sekigahara, a new narrative expansion focused on Atsu.

The expansion moves between two different periods.

One takes place during the massive Battle of Sekigahara.

The other takes place in the present day after the events of the main game.

This structure allows Sucker Punch to explore both Atsu's past and her current journey.

Players will meet Nagato, an important figure from Atsu's history who fought alongside her during the Battle of Sekigahara.

His return becomes central to the new story.

A New Area Called Ashoro Foothills

The present-day part of Echoes of Sekigahara takes players to a previously unseen area of Ezo called Ashoro Foothills.

The region was once filled with wildlife.

It has now been devastated after the Vipers, a group of violent poachers, took control of the area.

The Vipers are loyal to the Snake's former followers and have turned the region into dangerous territory.

Atsu must work with Nagato to locate a close ally who has been captured by the Vipers.

This gives the expansion a more personal objective rather than simply adding another collection of side missions.

New Enemies and Heavy Weapons

Echoes of Sekigahara also expands the combat system.

The Ashoro Foothills introduces new enemy types and gives Atsu access to new heavy weapons.

Players who have not purchased Ghost of Yōtei can get the Complete Edition.

It includes the original game, Ghost of Yōtei Legends, Digital Deluxe content, the Charm of Hokkyokusei, Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara.

The digital Complete Edition is priced at $69.99 in the United States.

Players who already own Ghost of Yōtei can instead purchase the Complete Edition Upgrade for $14.99.

The upgrade gives existing owners access to both new pieces of paid content.

Players who pre-order by September 30 can also receive early access to the Sakai Armor for Atsu.

A Free Update Is Also Coming

Not everything arriving on October 1 requires the Complete Edition.

Sucker Punch is also releasing a free update for existing Ghost of Yōtei owners.

The update introduces Beauty of Yōtei, a mode designed around exploring the game's environments and using Photo Mode.

This should appeal to players who enjoy the game's landscapes and photography features.

The free update also adds new Watanabe Mode tracks.

Another useful addition is the ability to keep the appearance of one armor set while using the statistics of another.

That gives players more freedom to customize Atsu without sacrificing their preferred equipment bonuses.

A new high-contrast accessibility option is also being added.

When Does Ghost of Yōtei's New Content Release?

The main update arrives on October 1, 2026 globally.

However, Sucker Punch notes that the patch will arrive on October 2 in some Asian territories, Australia and New Zealand.

The new content will be delivered through version 2.0.

Players will need an internet connection and a PlayStation account to download the update.

The physical Complete Edition also launches on October 1, with regional timing differences in some territories.

Why Jin Sakai's Return Matters

Jin Sakai's return is more than a simple fan-service moment.

Ghost of Tsushima established the combat language that Ghost of Yōtei has expanded.

Bringing Jin into Most Wanted gives players a chance to experience that original combat style inside a completely different gameplay structure.
