Vivo has said that the updates promise is applicable to select models in its X series that will launch after July 20
Vivo has announced that it will offer major updates to the Android operating system for some of its smartphones for three years, following in the footsteps of HMD Global and Samsung. Although the Chinese company has not disclosed the names of the models, it has stated that it will select models of its flagship El X-series that have operating system updates for three years. The new directive will cover the Australian, European and Indian markets,
the company said in a press release. Instead of promising updates for all current and future models, Vivo said. The three-year major Android operating systems and security updates will appear in the next-generation flagship X-Series series sometime after July 2021, much like HMD Global promised last month to offer three years of operating system updates for its Nokia X phones.
Last year Samsung also announced that it would release three “generations” of Android operating system updates for its devices. However, the South Korean company has a list of around 40 devices that are eligible as part of its three-year upgrade commitment. Vivo has promised that its premium X-Series models, which will not be able to update Android operating systems for three years, will continue to receive regular Android security updates.

Vivo hasn’t released any details on its new X-series phones yet. However, rumor has it that the Vivo X70 Pro + could be one of the upcoming models.
