Music icon AR Rahman and his wife, Saira, have announced their decision to separate after years of marriage.
The couple, who entered into an arranged marriage in 1995, revealed the news through a statement from Saira’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, which addressed the emotional challenges that led to their split.
The statement reads: “After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband, Mr. AR Rahman. This decision follows considerable emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has realized that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap, one that neither feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs. Saira emphasized that this decision comes from a place of pain and sorrow. She requests privacy and understanding from the public as she navigates this difficult period in her life.”
