Jumanji 3 is officially set to release

Jumanji 3 is officially set to release on December 11, 2026, as announced by Sony.

This date mirrors the pre-Christmas slots of the previous films in the franchise. The movie will have exclusive access to IMAX and PLF screens that weekend.

Director Jake Kasdan is expected to return, along with the star lineup of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, all of whom are in talks to reprise their roles. Producers Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Kasdan are also back on board.

Currently, there are no other films scheduled for that December 2026 timeframe, positioning Jumanji 3 to open just a week before Disney’s untitled Star Wars movie and Warner Bros/Legendary’s Dune 3, set for December 18.

The original Jumanji, released in 1995, starred Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst and grossed $262.8 million worldwide, making it a significant hit at the time. The film followed a group of kids who unleash a safari-themed game into their hometown, with scenes filmed in Keene, NH.

Directors Jake Kasdan and Dwayne Johnson found a fresh approach to reboot the franchise, shifting the focus to kids getting trapped in a video game, where they assume alternative avatars. This led to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017, which grossed an impressive $962.5 million globally, followed by Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019, which earned $801.6 million. Together, the trilogy has amassed over $2.02 billion worldwide.

Kasdan and Johnson are collaborating again this month on the $200 million Amazon MGM Studios Christmas film, Red One, also featuring Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, J.K. Simmons, and Kiernan Shipka. Set to open on November 15, the movie follows the rescue of Santa Claus (Simmons) by his head of security (Johnson) and a notorious bounty hunter (Evans).
