Russia has become the first nation to complete clinical trials of Covid-19 vaccine on humans according to the reports the vaccine has proven medication’s effectiveness.
“Sechenov University has successfully completed tests on volunteers of the world’s first vaccine against Coronavirus,” Vadim Tarasov, director of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Biotechnology, told Sputnik.
The vaccine was developed by the Gamaleya Institute, an epidemiology research centre in Moscow. The trials were authorised by the Russian Health Ministry, and the university started running then from June 18, according to the report the vaccine has proven medication’s effectiveness.
The first group of 18 volunteers would be discharged on July 15, and the second batch of 20 on July 20. The volunteers will stay under medical oversight in an outpatient basis after getting discharged.
“Sechenov University in a pandemic situation acted not only as an educational institution but also as a scientific and technological research center that is able to participate in the creation of such important and complex products as drugs … We worked with this vaccine, starting with preclinical studies and protocol development, and clinical trials are currently underway,” Tarasov noted.
