Maddock Films, the Indian production house behind some of the most innovative movies,
Has announced the release date for Param Sundari, a cross-cultural romantic drama starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. The film is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
Directed by Tushar Jalota, known for his work on Dasvi, Param Sundari tells the story of a love affair between a North Indian man (Malhotra) and a South Indian woman (Kapoor). Shot in the picturesque landscapes of Kerala, the film promises to be a captivating exploration of love and cultural contrasts. With its backdrop of Kerala’s serene backwaters, Param Sundari blends humor, chaos, and unexpected twists, offering a heartfelt narrative about two distinct worlds colliding.
In a conversation with Variety, Maddock Films’ founder Dinesh Vijan compared the movie’s essence to the timeless romances of Mani Ratnam, specifically Saathiya, which was based on Ratnam’s Tamil film Alai Payuthey. He also hinted at the intriguing dynamic between Kapoor, who will play a South Indian character, and Malhotra, who will portray a North Delhi boy. Vijan mentioned the “cool conflict” between their cultural backgrounds, suggesting that it adds an exciting dimension to the film’s story.
“Its like those films that Mani-sir [Mani Ratnam] used to do like ‘Saathiya’,” Vijan noted. “The kind of music it has and Janhvi playing a South Indian is interesting, Sid’s playing a Northern Delhi boy and the conflict is very cool.”
While Param Sundari is expected to tap into the rich cultural conflicts akin to Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Maddock Films’ sci-fi rom-com featuring Kriti Sanon and Shahid Kapoor, the narrative will take a more adventurous turn. Vijan hinted that the movie’s tone might draw some inspiration from Kantara (2022), a folk-action drama known for its exploration of tradition versus modernity.
Maddock Films has had a standout year in 2024, delivering hits across genres, including the successful horror-comedy Munjya, the continuation of the Stree franchise (Stree 2), the gripping thriller Sector 36, and the suspenseful whodunnit Murder Mubarak.
