Sony is preparing a redesign of the PlayStation 5 with a new processor

Sony will begin production of the redesigned PlayStation 5 next year, according to various online sources. The rumor was originally sparked by a direct testimony from Hiroki Totoki, Sony’s CFO. During a recent conference call with investors about the financial results for the year, management announced that Sony is considering addressing the PS5 shortage by redesigning the console.

It did not provide any additional details, but information about it was displayed on the network. Vendors will begin producing the redesigned console between Q2 and Q3 2022, as is the case with Taiwanese. The Digitimes resource, known for its links to the production chain, has now been reported.

It is noted that the “redesign” will consist of a new processor, a modified 6 nanometer chip from AMD. It is also stressed that the new CPU will be cheaper than the one currently used in the PS5. The current version of the PlayStation 5 is equipped with a modified 3rd generation AMD Ryzen, which is based on the 7 nm Zen 2 microarchitecture and clocked at 3.5 GHz. 8 cores and 16 threads.
