“Se7en” to Be Released in 4K for the First Time in January for Its 30th Anniversary
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the iconic psychological thriller Se7en will be released in stunning 4K for the first time.
Directed by David Fincher and produced by New Line Cinema, the film will be available for digital purchase in 4K Ultra HD and on 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc starting January 6, 2025. Additionally, Se7en will make its way back to the big screen, with a re-release in IMAX cinemas in London beginning January 10.
The 4K restoration of Se7en was carefully crafted at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Motion Picture Imaging (MPI), using the original camera negative. Director David Fincher oversaw the restoration process to ensure the film’s visual integrity was preserved.
In Se7en, two detectives, played by Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, track a brilliant and elusive killer whose murders are inspired by the Seven Deadly Sins. The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow in this critically acclaimed thriller, set in a grim and rain-soaked city filled with despair and corruption.
Directed by three-time Academy Award nominee David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network, Mank), the screenplay for Se7en was written by Andrew Kevin Walker. The film features a stellar cast, including Academy Award winners Brad Pitt (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood), Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby), and Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare in Love), as well as John C. McGinley, R. Lee Ermey, and Kevin Spacey, who plays the mysterious killer, John Doe.
Produced by Arnold Kopelson and Phyllis Carlyle, Se7en earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing (Richard Francis-Bruce) at the 68th Academy Awards, and was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay (Andrew Kevin Walker) at the 49th British Academy Film Awards.
