Maharashtra begin ‘largest plasma trial’

India’s Central Drug Authority on Tuesday allowed the Maharashtra government to embrace gaining strength plasma treatment trials in serious Covid-19 patients at 21 government medical college hospitals (GMCHs).

Dr Sushant Meshram, Dean, Government Medical College, Nagpur, and the trial’s principal investigator, had looked for the medication authority’s consent for directing multi-centric plasma trials in serious Covid-19 cases in a randomized control group.

In a letter routed to Dr Meshram on June 8, Dr V G Somani, Central Licensing Authority, Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), expressed, “concerning your (Maharashtra government’s) letter dated June 4, 2020, if it’s not too much trouble find encased herewith consent to lead the clinical preliminary under the arrangements of the New Drugs and Clinical Trial Rules, 2019, in view of the assessment in counsel with the subject Expert Committee.” The CDSCO capacities under the Center’s Directorate General of Health Services.
