The singer, who was set to serve as a mentor in the show, passed away on October 16, 2024, following a fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina. However, the show is now moving forward, with significant decisions being made about its release.
According to a source speaking to The Sun, Netflix and the production company are set to meet with Payne’s family to discuss the future of the show, which he filmed prior to his death. The family will be consulted to ensure they are comfortable with the series airing in 2025.
“Nothing will be finalized until they have given their blessing,” the source revealed. “It is the last thing he worked on, and he comes across so well in it.”
Building The Band wrapped up filming in August 2024 at Manchester’s Aviva Studios. Payne filmed his final scenes alongside big names like Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls and Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child.
Described by Netflix as an unscripted series, Building The Band brings together 50 talented singers who attempt to form their own band without ever meeting face-to-face. While a release date for the series has yet to be announced, Payne’s final television project is already generating significant interest.
