‘League of Legends’ world championship will be held in Shanghai starting in September
‘League of Legends’ championship will start in Shanghai despite pandemic from 25th September, although there will be safety precautions.
Riot Games announced that it will hold the League of Legends World Championship 2020 in Shanghai from September 25th to October 31st. Riot had planned for the tournament to travel to different cities in China for its various stages. The tournament has been moved entirely to Shanghai as an added safety measure due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The finals will be held in Pudong Soccer Stadium.
“We continue to use the guidance from various health organizations and local and national authorities to prioritize safety for our players, fans, and everyone involved with bringing Worlds 2020 to life,” Riot said in a statement.
According to a release, if local guidelines permit the event will have an audience, with ticket details and safety protocols to be shared at a later date.
Additionally, Riot has adjusted its plans for the next two World Championships. The event will return to China in 2021 for the usual multi-city tour, with North America hosting the 2022 iteration.
