Hollywood Stars Affected by California Wildfires: Who Lost Their Homes?

The devastating wildfires that have been ravaging California

since Tuesday have claimed the lives of at least 10 individuals and destroyed nearly 10,000 homes and structures, according to local officials. Hollywood, the heart of America’s entertainment industry, has not been spared. Several prominent celebrities have seen their homes fall victim to these catastrophic fires.

Wildfires Impact Hollywood Hills

The Sunset Fire, which ignited Wednesday evening, has had a particularly harsh impact on Hollywood Hills. While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, it has scorched 42 acres of land. By Thursday, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass reported that the fire had been contained, but the damage had already been done.

Although a viral social media post falsely suggested the Hollywood sign had caught fire, the reality was much more personal for many A-listers whose homes were in the fire’s path.

Stars Who Lost Their Homes

  1. Billy Crystal – The beloved comedian, known for his role in When Harry Met Sally, lost the home he had owned since 1979 in Pacific Palisades. He and his wife, Janice, expressed heartbreak but remained thankful for the support of their family and friends, vowing to persevere through the loss.
  2. Mel Gibson – While filming in Austin, Texas, the Mad Max star learned that his Malibu home had been destroyed. “It’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional,” Gibson shared, reflecting on the personal loss.
  3. Jeff Bridges – The Big Lebowski actor confirmed that his Malibu home was burned in the Palisades Fire. A spokesperson for Bridges confirmed the loss, noting that the damage was immense.
  4. Paris Hilton – Hilton’s Malibu beach mansion was another casualty of the Palisades Fire. She shared her pain on social media, stating that watching the disaster unfold on television was an indescribable heartbreak.
  5. Cary Elwes – The Princess Bride actor also lost his family home, but he expressed gratitude for his family’s safety in an Instagram post, acknowledging the devastation while remaining hopeful.
  6. Mandy Moore – The This Is Us star evacuated her family’s home in Altadena before the Eaton Fire caused significant damage. Moore described her shock and sorrow, highlighting the emotional toll the loss has taken on her family and community.
  7. Milo Ventimiglia – Another This Is Us star, Ventimiglia, shared that he and his pregnant wife, Jarah Mariano, had to evacuate their Malibu home. “It’s like, what good is it to continue watching? We kind of accepted the loss,” he said, reflecting on the surreal nature of the experience.

Other Celebrities Affected

In addition to these high-profile names, other Hollywood stars have been impacted by the fires. Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Anthony Hopkins, John Goodman, Miles Teller, Anna Faris, and Eugene Levy have all had their properties damaged or destroyed. While some have yet to comment publicly, Dan Levy, Eugene Levy’s son, expressed his heartbreak over the loss of his family’s $3.9 million property.

Evacuations and Continued Struggles

Other celebrities, including Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, James Woods, Marc Maron, and Mark Hamill, evacuated their homes as the fires spread. With resources stretched thin, residents of neighborhoods like Altadena are concerned that wealthier areas might receive more attention from firefighting efforts. Inez Moore, a lecturer at California State University and an Altadena resident, noted the growing tension between communities and their varying needs for assistance.

As the wildfires continue to wreak havoc across California, Hollywood’s response to the crisis has showcased both the vulnerability of its residents and the resilience of the community as a whole
