Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon Passed Away At 85

Lalji Tandon, Governor of Madhya Pradesh and former MP from Lucknow, died in Medanta, Lucknow.

Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon passed away in the early hours of Tuesday. Tandon was admitted to the private hospital after complaining of breathing problems, difficulty in urination, and fever. He was 85, had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since June 11.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel had been given additional charge of Madhya Pradesh amid Tandon’s illness.

His son, Ashutosh Tandon announced his demise on Twitter. “Babuji is no more”, he tweeted.

In his career spanning five decades, Tandon served in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council for two terms from 1978 to 1984, and 1990-1996; as an MLA in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly for three terms between 1996 to 2009; as MP in the 15th Lok Sabha, and Governor of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Tandon and said, “Shri Lalji Tandon will be remembered for his untiring efforts to serve society. He played a key role in strengthening BJP in Uttar Pradesh. He made a mark as an effective administrator, always giving importance to public welfare. Anguished by his passing away.”
